Flapper lace bolero

#9364          $450

Tambour-embroidered tulle bolero, late 1920s

Antique textile accessories add an individuality to the modern wardrobe. You can wear this lovely little bolero over a slip-style evening dress or pair it with jeans. The bolero is fashioned from ivory-colored cotton tulle embellished with tambour embroidery. I love the dainty floral pattern and bell-shaped sleeves. The bolero is open in the front with no closure.

"Tambour" refers to a technique that uses a frame ("tambour" or drum) to hold the fabric taut. The frame is used in conjunction with a hook ("the tambour hook"), which resembles a crochet hook. This greatly speeds up the chain stitch, compared to the old method, which used only a needle for the embroidery. The tambour hook creates chain stitches unsurpassed for their fineness.

The condition is excellent and wearable.

It measures: 40" bust, 15 1/2" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, and 15 1/2" center-back length.
