vintage auto hat

#4042          $950  Reserved

Touring hat & protective goggles, c.1910

The first automobile, invented in 1885 by Karl Benz, was an open carriage. Even when autos had tops to keep off the rain, there was little to prevent dust from dirt roads from settling on the occupants' clothing and blowing into the eyes.

This hat and goggle set offered some protection for the early car enthusiast. For more clothing to wear with your vintage car, check the duster/cape in the Victorian section. The set has real vintage cachet. You can wear the set on your next grand road tour!

Detroit became known as the world's car capital after manufacturers like General Motors and Chrysler followed the lead of Henry Ford and set up shop in the area. It is not surprising that automobile accessories would also be made in Detroit—see the bottom picture of the hat label.

The condition is very good. Both pieces show gentle wear. The hat is slightly faded across the top. These are minor problems.

One size fits all.
