Edwardian petticoat

#2286          $500

Hand-embroidered petticoat, c.1910

This lovely petticoat is too pretty to hide as an undergarment. It would be perfect as a one-of-a-kind summer skirt.

The petticoat is fashioned from lightweight white cotton batiste. The cut is straight with deep slits on the sides. The bottom is bordered with hand-embroidered flowers, cutwork, lace inserts, and ruffles.

The third picture down displays the carefully worked out design, where strong rectilinear forms contrast with feminine curvilinear forms of great delicacy and refinement. Naturally the feminine motifs prevail in the seductive petticoat.

The condition is almost excellent. At the waistband in back is a small mend, which is barely visible. The petticoat is clean and ready to wear.

It measures: 30" waist, 42" hip, and 40 1/2" center-front length.
