Jean Desses gloves

#7201         $325

Jean Dessès rhinestone studded evening gloves, 1950s

The elegant over-the-elbow evening gloves were designed by Jean Dessès and produced by Elan. In spite of the luxurious appearance, they are fashioned from washable black cotton. The gloves are embellished with prong-set rhinestones.

Celebrities and royalty loved Dessès evening gowns, which featured yards of artfully draped chiffon in the manner of Madame Grès. His clientele included the Queen and royal princesses of Greece, the Duchess of Windsor, and society hostess Elsa Maxwell. Who can forget the dramatic yellow Dessès gown worn by Renée Zellweger for the 2001 Oscars!

Dessès' output was meager. Hence, the rarity and high prices for extant Dessès pieces. Couture Dessès gowns are important collectibles selling for $5000-$15,000. The stylish, sophisticated gloves offer to the collector a piece of Dessès design history without the high cost of one of his gowns.

The condition is mint. The gloves have never been worn.

The size is marked 6 1/2. The gloves are 22" long.
