Sequined lace evening dress, 1930s
This elegant evening dress combines the romance and mystery of black lace with a form fitting Flamenco-style torso, guaranteeing every eye in the room will be on you when you make your entrance. The sparkling sequins will hold their gaze.
After playing with colors and patterns, we always return to black. As Christian Dior put it in 1954: "You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it on almost any occasion."
The dress and separate scarf are fashioned from delicate black floral lace with black tulle hem borders. The dress has an attached black silk crepe slip. It slips over the head with no closures. I love the novelty star-shaped sequins.
The torso is form fitting to just above the knee. The lower skirt is circular in cut, falling in soft bias folds. It is backed with a layer of black tulle.
Here is a sophisticated dress for the stylish woman who uses her beauty and her clothing as the material from which to create a work of art: the combination of dress, light, and the evening's mood in her eyes.
The condition is almost excellent. In the lace are a few discrete mends that are virtually invisible.
It measures: 38+" bust, 30" waist, 38" hip, and 53" center-front length.
