Delicate mesh mitts, early Victorian
The gossamer mitts are fashioned from delicate black cotton thread. The mesh is embellished with rows of knotted diamonds and open work borders.
I love the looped thread ruffles at the wrist. The mitten style, which does not have divided fingers, was popular from the 1830s to 1850.
The condition is almost excellent. I found an occasional tiny break in the mesh.
One size fits all. The mesh stretches to fit a range of sizes.
