#2554 $395
Hand-embroidered batiste dress, 1830s
This lovely dress is probably best use as a study piece. It can be restored if you have patience. The main areas of damage are on the shoulders and hem border. While the dress could not be brought back to near excellent condition, it can be stabilized for display.
Made from sheer white cotton batiste, the dress personifies the Romantic-period ideal of sweet innocence. The bodice is shirred in front between rows of embroidered flowers. The neckline is wide and open. The full sleeves are cuffed at the wrist.
The dress is all original except for an extension of the back opening and the use of snaps instead of hook closures.
The condition is good.
It measures: 32" bust, 25" waist, and 53" from the shoulder to the hem.
