Givenchy rayon jersey dress, 1970s
This slinky dress of figure hugging rayon jersey was created by Hubert Givenchy for his ready-to-wear Nouvelle Boutique line. He knew that a hint of sensuality can be more seductive than baring all. Givenchy's "less-is-more" design concept anticipated by 40 years the recent celebrity trend.
Angelina Jolie flirted with the art of concealment in a stunning long-sleeved green evening dress from Atelier Versace at the Golden Globes.
At a recent Metropolitan Museum Ball, Source Code star Michelle Monaghan owned the room in a body-clinging design by Derek Lam.
In Cannes, Uma Thurman turned heads in her electric blue gown by Armani Privé.
You will feel like a celebrity in our fabulous Givenchy evening dress. The long sleeves are tight and ruched at the wrist where they close with zippers. The dress closes in back with a hand-stitched zipper. The waistband is shaped with an inner gros-grain cummerbund. I love the Grecian draping of the bodice.
Hubert de Givenchy began his career as an apprentice under Lucien Lelong in 1946. The two assistant designers in the Lelong atelier were Pierre Balmain and Christian Dior. Talk about a high powered design team!
In 1952, Givenchy opened his own innovative design house. In 1953 he met Audrey Hepburn, his most celebrated booster, during the filming of of Sabrina. He went on to design most of her personal and professional wardrobe.
