Vintage Marimekko hat, c.1966

The Marimekko phenomenon exploded on the international fashion scene at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. A major exhibit of Marimekko fashions and textiles followed at Design Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The casual styles and bold graphic prints were perfectly in tune with the swinging 1960s.

Made from sturdy cotton printed with the Keidas ("Oasis') pattern, the design was created in 1966 by Annika Rimala. Sold in America by Design Research, the hat has a dated Marimekko tag. Many of the original prints, e.g., the Keidas, are being reproduced today. However, today's cotton and print versions are of lesser quality.

The condition is excellent. The hat looks like it was never worn.

The crown circumference is 22".
