Two-tone floral straw hat, c.1900
This charming spring/summer hat of two-tone brown straw is embellished with pale peach fabric roses and sprays of white forget-me-nots. The forget-me-not flower has been worn by women as a symbol of enduring love since medieval times.
The height of the crown is built-up on one side and decorated with a taupe satin bow. This style of hat was meant to be worn perched on top of a piled up coiffure. The crown is lined with sheer black silk.
The condition is almost excellent. On the satin ribbon there is slight wear that does not spoil the appearance.
The hat has a diameter of 12". The inner crown circumference is 23".
