Juschi silk shawl-size scarf, c.1980
This dazzling silk scarf by Juschi was purchased by a New York art collector on a shopping trip to Italy. She saw it as a wearable painting that would make a stunning evening accessory. The scarf is fashioned from heavy silk crepe and is finished with a hand-rolled hem.
The print is a stunning dreamscape featuring pairs of exotic love birds. The subtle details reinforced by bold colors make a dramatic design statement. With Valentine's Day coming up, no one can miss the inset heart-shaped picture window.
The theme of love in paradise features two pairs of birds. For each pair, their plumage—similar and complementary but not identical—mirrors the emotional bond between man and woman in love: they are similar but not alike.
