Hand-embroidered peignoir, 1890s
What a special find for the lover of romantic antique lingerie! The white cotton broadcloth is finely decorated, recalling a time when a lady's boudoir was an intimate realm of beauty and love for a woman and her husband.
The decoration features charming ruffles hand embroidered with delicate flowers. The bodice yoke and sleeve cuffs have alternating rows of narrow tucks and feather-stitch embroidery. The cuffs are bordered with bands of cutwork. The peignoir closes on one side (to the hip) with concealed buttons.
The condition is excellent and wearable. It is clean and ready to wear.
It measures: 52" bust and waist, 72" hip, 13" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, 21" to the wrist, 25" total sleeve with the ruffle, 13" collar circumference (can be made larger by adding a piece of lace), and 57" from shoulder to hem.
