Pierre Cardin patio dress

#6705          $950

Pierre Cardin patio dress, 1970s

This innovative patio dress is right back in style today. The brilliant hues hark back to late 1960s counter cultural psychedelic art with its kaleidoscopically swirling patterns.

The full-length sheer overdress is attached at the shoulders and armholes to a lined playsuit underneath. I love the way the print in the playsuit shows through the outer layer, adding depth to the design.

Lined with white synthetic fabric, the playsuit closes in back with a hand-stitched nylon zipper and at the crotch with snaps. The silk organza outer dress is open to the knee on the sides and closes in back with loops and self-covered buttons. The center of the large fabric corsage on one shoulder sparkles with a dusting of glitter.

Cardin began his long career in 1936 as a 14-year-old tailor's apprentice. He worked at the Houses of Paquin, Schiaparelli, and Dior. Cardin opened his own maison de couture in 1950, going from one creative success to another. He is best known as an innovative couturier who skillfully used contemporary art movements (Op and Pop Art) in fashion. Today his work is featured in many fashion museums.

The condition is almost excellent. The dress shows gentle wear.

The size is marked 8. It measures: 36" bust, 30" waist, 36" hip, and 59" from the shoulder to the hem.
