1920s floral chiffon dress

#2450         $650

Floral chiffon flapper dress and scarf, late 1920s

The carefree mood of the brief Flapper Era is perfectly captured in the flirty floral dress. The dress is sleeveless; the detachable scarf, wider at the ends, forms the faux sleeves. The silhouette is actually straight with attached bias-cut skirt panels that give the appearance of a fuller skirt.

Our lovely dress is made from navy silk chiffon printed with bold brown and beige roses. The ends of the scarf and skirt panels are trimmed with delicate ivory silk lace. The sheer dress needs a slip and goes over the head with no closures. It has an attached cummerbund at the waist.

The handkerchief skirt hem, of uneven length, is typical of the late 1920s-early 1930s, when hemlines were in transition from the short flapper dress to the full length styles of the Depression years.

The floral theme is very au courant at the top couture houses. At Balenciaga, Nicolas Ghesquière has shown a collection in peony, rose, and gardenia prints from the archives. But you do not have to pay a king's ransom for a modern reinterpretation when you can go to the source with our fabulous flapper floral.

The condition is excellent and wearable. You just need to add a slip.

It measures: 42" bust and waist, 46" hip, and 47" from shoulder to hem.
