Charles Jourdan snakeskin ankle strap shoes, c.1980

I don't know who invented the high heel, but all women owe him a lot—Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe, our modern sex goddess, was simply stating what women have known for centuries: high heels can turn a demure Miss into a sexy vamp. It all started with Catherine de Medici, who was only 15 when she married in 1533. Taking a courtesan's advice, Catherine wore high heels to appear more mature at the ceremony.

High heels make the legs seem longer in proportion to body size. They carry a sexual frisson. (See the finale of the 1978 move Grease.) The very short skirts of the 1980s drew even more attention to high heels as part of "the look."

These sensational Charles Jourdan shoes feature 4" high heels. The open-toe style is sexy and totally impractical. The shoes are fashioned from pale khaki snakeskin—a livelier neutral than gray. I love the ankle straps! The shoes come with the original red Jourdan box.

Are these fabulous shoes right for you? That is like wondering if you can afford a yacht. If you have to ask, the answer is "No." The shoes will not cover a lot of mileage, but they will get you where you want to go!

The condition is mint. The shoes have never been worn. The lady who purchased these shoes in Paris loved to shop. When she found a style she liked, she bought it in every color, sometimes wearing something only once.

The size is marked 6 1/2B on the box.
