Victorian valence

#4033 $750

Hand-embroidered valence, late 19th century

The personal touch of a one-of-a-kind decorative piece adds a distinctive touch to any interior. This panel can be displayed over a door or window. The rich color contrasts show well from a distance.

The upper portion of the valence is hand-embroidered in silk floss on a burgundy satin ground. The exuberant Art Nouveau design is of the last degree of charm. The first picture down shows two perky, pink flowers paying homage to a stylized floral emblem. The confident insouciance of the brilliant design will brighten any room.

The embroidery is bordered with a panel of aqua velvet finished with fancy fringe at the bottom. The hand-knotted silk fringe has silk ball tassels that pick of the colors of the embroidery.

The valence is backed with matching burgundy plush cotton. The top edge, which would be attached to a rod, is unfinished.

The condition is excellent.

The valence is 100" wide by 15 1/2" long.
